YOUth CAN - Give Back Day
It feels good to give back!
Sika Corporation, USA, and its partners helped the YOUth CAN headquarters to become a better place. YOUth CAN’s mission is to intervene in the lives of disadvantaged youth in the community by enriching their academic, cultural and social development through academic assistance, computer technology, art and music programs.
50 volunteers answered in September 2016 Sika’s call to spend one day improving the quality of a community center building in Chicago ! The volunteers spent the day replacing the failing ceiling tiles, installing new carpet, cleaning the building’s storage areas, installing shelves, painting and repairing the fence. It was a fantastic event for both the local Sika team as well as our partners.
Sika is also donating products and materials to replace the 30 year old multi-layered asphalt roof with a new EnergySmart Sikaplan system so roof leaks will no longer be a daily occurrence in the building! Sika is also donating products and materials to add a new epoxy floor in their design room, wood floor in the computer room and sealant to fix the gaps for the exterior windows and masonry.
The project is ongoing.
Strong partnership with "Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago"
Sika's partner, "Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago", was formed in 1991 to improve the declining housing stock and neighborhoods in Chicago and Cook County. "Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago" serve existing home owners who, due to financial or physical limitations, have been unable toadequately maintain their homes. After 24 years, "Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago" repaired over 1,500 homes and 200 non-profit facilities in partnership with communities, corporations, trade unions and civic groups.
In the spirit of volunteerism and community partnership, Sika supports the "Rebuilding Together MetroChicago" initiative to improve the homes and neighborhoods of elderly, disabled and low-income residents so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety and comfort.
What is the concept of Give Back Days?
Give Back Days are hands-on, volunteer-driven days of service. Each project is tailored to the sponsoring group’s size, skill level and budget. Typical projects include painting, landscaping, organizing & cleaning, painting murals, furniture & playground assembly, and other minor repairs.
To date, Give Back Day sponsors and volunteers have worked to improve over200 community facilities in Chicagoland! All work is completed in one day, allowing volunteers to see their immediate impact. It’s an outstanding opportunity for colleagues to work together outside of the office and make a real difference. Team-building is an exciting by-product of a Give Back Day.
