Professorship endowed by Sika
ETH Zurich: The appeals procedure for the professorship, endowed by Sika on the occasion of the 100-year anniversary, is successfully completed. Professor Dr. Jan Vermant, currently Full Professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, was appointed Professor of Soft Materials at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) by the Board of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology on September 25/26, 2013. He has taken up office on August 1, 2014.
Jan Vermant's research interests focus on soft materials (e.g. gels, polymer melts and rubber) and their interfaces. He also conducts research into composites made of soft matter, as well as colloid systems and bacteria. By appointing Jan Vermant, ETH Zurich gains a top researcher with a global reputation in his field.
Sika Master Award
Sika continued also in 2013 the successful and wide-ranging partnership with the ETH in the fields of chemistry, materials science and engineering. 2013 was the fourth year in which the Sika Master Award was presented to the author of an outstanding master’s thesis in the field of applied chemistry, based on the recommendation of the ETH’s Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences.
Sustainable Construction Partnership Council
Sika also participates in the Sustainable Construction Partnership Council. This interdisciplinary forum promotes a dialogue on current research topics, supports resources and knowledge transfer, and encourages the launch of joint research projects in the field of sustainable construction.
