Roofing

Experience You Can Rely On

We have been producing technologically advanced roofing membranes for almost 50 years. During that time we have evolved from being a manufacturer of liquid roof coatings to become a major player within the roofing industry. And as pioneers of liquid roof waterproofing technology, our Decothane roofing membrane systems are amongst the fastest growing products in the UK today.

Key Features

Our products offer a complete solution for your roof coating requirements, as well as exhibiting some inherent key features:

  • A completely seamless, waterproof roofing membrane can be achieved without the use of heat or naked flame
  • Cold applied built-up roof systems are available, including insulation to help meet Part L regulations
  • Our roofing membranes are tough and elastomeric, which means they can withstand thermal/structural movement
  • Products are easily applied over complex details and free from joints, fixtures, and seams
  • Can be applied over the existing roof coating without the need to remove the old material
  • No disruption to activities in the building below
  • Compatible with most roof designs and substrates
  • Resistant to foot traffic, UV degradation, and airborne pollutants
  • Key systems are backed by the BBA and guaranteed to last 10,15,20, or 25 years
  • Available in a range of colours with the ability to produce special colours to match the appearance of existing substrates

Waterproof Membranes

We manufacture a range of roofing membranes of which Decothane is our key product. Suitable for use on flat and pitched roof systems, as well as a waterproof roof membrane within our built-up roofs, it cures to provide completely seamless waterproof protection. Once installed it achieves the highest fire ratings available compared to similar roofing membranes, and its excellent thermal and UV stability makes it suitable for use in all climates.

In areas where a walkway needs to be created we also have Skid Inhibiting Grit, which can be broadcast into wet Decothane to create safe roof access for pedestrians. Furthermore, walkways can also be marked out using a different colour of Decothane to make the route across the roof more visible.

For use in situations where a clear roof membrane is required we have Decothane Clearglaze - a clearer coating that can be used over glass, GRP rooflights and other materials, providing a waterproof barrier that will not stop the continued transmission of light into a building and will allow the appearance of the original substrate to be maintained.

In addition to Decothane we also produce a 10 year system called Decaflex and Soladex PU, a weatherproof roof membrane for metal profiled and asbestos cement sheet roofs. Soladex PU resists water penetration even when immersed beneath ponded water, and cures to form a tough, UV stable roofing membrane.

Built-Up Roof Systems

The launch of our Cold Fusion Bonded Built-Up Roof System in 2004 signalled a revolution in roofing systems. And with the advent of a cold fusion adhesive – Decostik® - we have since achieved the world’s first BBA certificate for a cold applied built-up roof.

Our built-up roof system is completely cold applied, thus eliminating the need for any heat or naked flame on the roof. Furthermore, once installed it achieves the highest fire ratings available for roofs.

With the Decothane liquid applied membrane, the system is easy to install with simple application to detail areas. And because of its cold application there is an increased working window with no requirement to stick to holiday and shutdown periods.

The full system incorporates Decotherm, a high performance CFC/HCFC-free insulation with a glass fibre facing, which is also available pre-mitred to assist rapid installation of tapered insulation systems.

Inverted Roofs

Our Inverted Roof System offers many advantages over traditional warm and cold low pitched flat roofs. Not only is the system completely cold applied, it is also totally seamless – eliminating the risk of leaks due to failure of joints. And because the waterproofing is located at the bottom of the system it can be expected to have a life in excess of that obtained in an exposed situation as it is protected from mechanical damage, solar radiation, UV degradation, and temperature extremes.

Unlike traditional inverted roofs, our system includes the completely seamless Root Resistant Decothane waterproof membrane, which is proven to resist penetration by even the most aggressive roots. Traditional systems can be subject to failure because the waterproof layer allows water ingress through joints, seams, and detail areas. It is therefore particularly important to avoid this scenario in inverted roof situations where the waterproof layer is below the surface and not easily reachable should problems occur.

Our system also includes Liquid Plastics Inverted Roof Board – an extruded polystyrene board that complies with the Montreal Protocol and has zero Ozone Depletion Potential. Where gravel ballast is used as a finishing option, Liquid Plastics offers a Filtration Layer for installation over the insulation to prevent the gravel from being washed down below the insulation where it may abrade the waterproofing layer or block rainwater outlets.

Solar PV Roof Systems

A roof was once seen only as a means of protecting a building from the elements. But now through the introduction of insulation to increase thermal efficiency, followed by the ability to generate renewable energy from the roof space, it has become a valuable resource for building owners.

By using solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on your building you can actually generate a yearly income that will pay off the initial cost of completing the roof work and installation, and in subsequent years will give you a significant return on your investment.

There are three ways that a solar PV roof can create income or savings:

1. The Generation Tariff is a minimum payment for all electricity generated by the solar PV roof. This varies according to the size of the installation and is paid by the energy supplier at a guaranteed rate for 25 years

2. The Export Tariff is a separate payment for any electricity exported to the grid

3. Energy Bill Savings are created through electricity generated by the solar PV panels being used by the building occupier to reduce their electricity consumption from the grid, with a corresponding reduction in their electricity bill

Green Roof Systems

There are three main reasons why green roofing has become so popular including a growth in sustainable technology, the fact that they aid planning consent, and the huge benefits for the environment.

A green roof is the term applied when vegetation such as sedum, plants and trees, are installed on a building. There are three types of green roofs; Extensive Green Roofs, Biodiverse Roofs (Extensive Brown Roofs), and Intensive Green Roofs.

There are many economic and ecological advantages of having green roofing including reducing the carbon footprint of the building, improving air quality, reducing the Urban Heat Island Effect, and increasing the thermal performance of a building.

Our Green Roofing Systems are unique because they were the first on the market to include a seamless membrane that is certified by the BBA, and they also come with a 25 year guarantee.

Asbestos Encapsulation

There is a clear need to implement safety measures when encountering an asbestos roof in order to prevent the release of harmful fibres into the air. Possibly the safest and most cost effective method is asbestos encapsulation within a seamless, protective coating. This involves relatively little disturbance of the material, therefore minimising the risk.

There are a number of benefits to encapsulating asbestos roofs rather than attempting to remove the material. Firstly it eliminates the need to dispose of the removed asbestos, a process which can be costly and is subject to strict controls. Encapsulation work can also be completed quickly, thus reducing disruption, on-site time, and all of the associated costs.

At Liquid Plastics we have a range of asbestos encapsulation systems designed specifically for asbestos roofs. Once installed, the system enables the asbestos to be left undisturbed and will provide protection from all of the associated dangers.

Our systems are suitable for internal or external application and provide a seamless, elastomeric membrane which resists cracking and flaking and can be guaranteed for up to 15 years. Other features include:

  • Systems can be spray or brush applied
  • Cheaper alternative to stripping
  • Range of systems available
  • All systems have passed stringent fire tests
  • All systems are completely cold applied
