SikaMix Frostproofer & Plasticiser

Admixture for frostproofing and plasticising in sub-zero temperatures

SikaMix Frostproofer and Plasticiser is an air entraining chloride free liquid admixture for mortar which also acts as an accelerator for work in sub-zero temperatures. Improves workability and freeze/thaw resistance in brick laying mortars and eliminates the need for a separate frostproofer.

Usage

To accelerate the setting times and act as an air entraining, water reducing admixture. Suitable for:
  • Render (internal and external).
  • Loadbearing brickwork.
  • Block laying.
  • Pointing/repointing brickwork.
  • Floor screeds.

Concrete Mix Design

The following are examples of modified mix designs:
Example 1:

      1     :  0.25 :    3
Cement : Lime : Sand

Instead use
       1    :   3     : + Sika® Frostproofer and Plasticiser
Cement : Sand

Example 2:

       1    :     1   :    6
Cement : Lime : Sand

Instead use
      1      :    6    : + Sika® Frostproofer and Plasticiser
Cement : Sand 

BRICKLAYING/POINTING: Use a mix design appropriate to brick strength (1 : 3 to 1 : 6).

INTERNAL RENDERS: 1 : 6 + Sika® Frostproofer and Plasticiser

EXTERNAL RENDERS: 1 : 3 + Sika® Frostproofer and Plasticiser

Test mix > 70 % of control.

Recommended Dosage

Ambient temperatures down to -4 °C: 1.25 L per 25 kg cement.

Ambient temperatures below -8 °C: 2.5 L per 25 kg cement.
Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

  • All materials used must be free from ice, and the temperature of the mix prior to placing should not be less than +4 °C.
  • Sceeds must be covered after placing until the minimum strength is obtained or until the temperature rises above freezing.
  • Do not use weak mixes during cold weather.

How do I dose it correctly?

Use 1.25–2.5 L per 25 kg of cement, depending on conditions. Always pre-mix with clean water before adding to the mortar or render.
