How to Prepare

As with any project, preparation is key. By ensuring all surfaces are prepped and ready for application, you can be sure of a successful finish every time.

Step 1: Clean the Surface

Ensure all surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and loose materials.

Step 2: Degrease if Necessary

Use a mild detergent or surface cleaner to remove any grease or oil. Allow the surface to dry completely before application.

Step 3: Prime Dusty Surfaces

Prime dusty surfaces with Sika® PVA+ diluted 1:4 with water and allow to dry.

How to Apply

The item to be bonded will dictate the application method used. Read on to discover how to correctly bond items depending on their weight, avoiding any slipping of heavy items during the curing process.

Step 1: Prepare the Cartridge

  • Cut the tip of the cartridge carefully, taking care not to damage the thread.
  • Attach the nozzle and cut to the required width.
  • Insert the cartridge into a sealant gun.

Step 2: Apply the Adhesive

For Heavy Items (e.g., plasterboard, worktops, wall panels):

  • Apply adhesive all the way around the edge of the item (30-50 mm from the edge).
  • Cover the back with beads of adhesive at 300 mm intervals.
  • Alternatively, apply adhesive directly to battens and press into place.
  • Provide temporary support until the adhesive dries.

For Lightweight Items (e.g., covings, dado rails, skirting):

  • Apply adhesive to the back of the item in one or two continuous beads.
  • Press immediately into place.

For Gap Filling:

  • Mark areas with large gaps and apply a thicker bead to these areas.

Step 3: Bond the Materials

  • Press the materials together firmly to ensure good adhesion.
  • For heavy items, maintain pressure and provide temporary support until the adhesive sets.

Cleaning Up

Excess Adhesive: Clean up immediately with Sika® Wonder Wipes or a cloth and white spirits.

Cured Material: Carefully remove mechanically without damaging the area.
