Getting the Surface Ready

For a secure bond or seal, make sure the surface is clean and dust free. If dust is present, e.g. on a newly plastered wall, prime the area first with PVA such as SikaBond® Contractors PVA, diluted 1:4 with water and allow to dry.

As Stixall works in the wet, it is ideal for carrying out emergency repairs. For general sealing and bonding, surfaces can be damp but should have no standing water.

Bonding with Stixall

For lightweight items such as covings, dado rails, skirting boards etc., simply aply Stixall to the back in one or two continuous beads and press immediately into place.

If the items being used aren't perfectly flush, Stixall can be used to fill the gaps. Mark the areas where gaps are present and apply a thicker bead.

Bonding Heavy Items

When using Stixall to bond heavy items such as plasterboard, worktops or wall panels, apply a continuous line 30-50mm from the edge, as well as covering the area with beads of Stixall at 300mm intervals.

Alternatively, you can apply Stixall directly to battens and press into place.

It is important to support heavy items until the adhesive fully dries, either by clamping or placing battens underneath.

Sealing with Stixall

Joint Preparation

If necessary, reduce joint depth using an expanding foam such as  EVERBUILD®
FIX & FILL Expanding Foam, or insert SikaSeal®-414 Backer Rod UK. Ensure the sealant is only being applied to two surfaces to maintain flexibility.

Application

For a neat finish, use masking tape to line the area beforehand. Apply Stixall with one continuous pull of the sealant gun trigger, applying even pressure for a smooth finish.

Once applied, tool down using a smoothing tool such as EVERBUILD SEAL RITE SMOOTH-OUT TOOL. The joint must be tooled within five minutes of application to ensure good contact between the sealant and substrate. If used, remove masking tape immediately after tooling.

Fixing Mirrors with Stixall

Unlike some adhesives, Stixall can be used on mirrors. Simply apply Stixall in 6mm diameter beads, directly to the back of the mirror, in vertical strips spaced 30-40 mm apart. Immediately place the mirror in position, applying firm, even pressure, with a slight twist action to ensure an even spread of adhesive. Hold in place with tape for 24-48 hours until the adhesive has fully cured. After this time, Stixall can be used to seal around the edge of the mirror, if required.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Once applied, uncured Stixall can be removed with a damp cloth and white spirit. If cured, remove from surfaces with a suitable scraping tool, being careful not to damage the substrate beneath.

Stixall is over paintable with water-based paints. Allow the product to fully dry and always test an inconspicuous area before use.
