Sika® Black Jack®-906 Bitumen Roofing Emulsion

A stable bitumen/water emulsion of medium brushing consistency for the general waterproofing of roofs

Sika® Black Jack®-906 Bitumen Roofing Emulsion is a stable bitumen/water emulsion of medium brushing consistency which dries to a black, flexible coating. The product is specially designed for general waterproofing of roofs and provides protection against corrosion of pipes and structural steelwork.

Usage

  • General waterproofing of roofs – for use on concrete, fibre/cement, roofing felt, mastic asphalt, corrugated iron, slates, tiles, lead, copper and zinc.
  • Metal protection – provides protection against corrosion of pipes, structural steelwork and other metallic equipment.
  • Insulation – provides a vapour barrier for cold storage rooms, mushroom houses and similar installations.

Technical Information

Chemical Resistance

Resistant to: most salt solutions, dilute acids and alkali, and water.
Not resistant to: oils, solvents and some detergent solutions. 
If not sure, check first in an inconspicuous area.

Service Temperature

-10 °C to +85 °C.

Flow resistance

The cured film will not sag or flow under normal conditions.

Drying time

Allow 24 hours between coats.
Consumption

Yield

Approx. 1.25 m2 per litre per coat depending on porosity of substrate. Two coats will give a dried film of approximately 0.9 mm thickness.
Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Before applying, ensure surfaces are clean, sound and free from dust or any contaminants which may affect adhesion. Remove green growth with Sika® Mouldbuster. No roof coating can be expected to repair an existing roof which is not structurally sound and stable. Make good any holes or loose felt/slates/tiles etc. Fill holes/imperfections with Black Jack® 903 Bitumen Trowel Mastic. Stick down loose felt etc with Black Jack® 904 Roof Felt Adhesive. Prime porous surfaces with Black Jack® 902 Bitumen and Flashing Primer and allow to dry before use. 

APPLICATION

Stir well before use. The product is brown when applied but dries black. Apply by brush in a minimum of two coats at a rate of 0.75 L/m2. Apply coats at right angles to each other and allow 24 hours between coats. This emulsion may be applied to damp, but not wet surfaces. For maximum durability, the second coat can be reinforced with an open woven glass fibre membrane. In order to prolong the effective life of the dried coating, overcoating with Black Jack® 907 Solar Reflective Roof Coating is recommended.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

All tools should be cleaned immediately after use with soap and water or Sika® Wonder Wipes. Use white spirit if the material has dried.
