Cromar® Hot Gritting Adhesive

A solvent based, hot applied bituminous adhesive.

Cromar® Hot Gritting Adhesive is a solvent based, hot applied bitumenous adhesive for bonding chippings to flat or low-pitched roofs. Designed to bond a wide variety of aggregates to build-up felt and mastic asphalt flat roof surfaces.

Shelf Life

Minimum 18 months in undamaged tightly sealed containers.

Storage Conditions

Containers must be kept sealed and stored away from sources of heat and ignition.

Application steps

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Cromar® Hot Gritting Adhesive requires heating before use. The material should be transferred from the supplied drums into a bitumen boiler and heated to a temperature not exceeding + 140 °C. It is important that no water is allowed to enter the drums or the boiler, as this will cause frothing and boiling over. Pour the Cromar® Hot Gritting Adhesive onto to the roof and spread using brush, squeegee or roller, and immediately apply the chippings onto the film. Lightly roll the chippings to ensure good contact then brush off any excess.

Complete roofing work in line with current British Standard codes of conduct. Ensure appropriate safety wear is used and that there are no sources of ignition. 

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

The roof must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease, dirt and all loose debris.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Tools may be cleaned with white spirit. Minor spillages should be wiped off surface immediately before the product has set. Major spillages should be confined with absorbent material, such as sand or granules, allowed to dry, then shovelled up and disposed of in accordance with local and national regulations.
