Cromar® Patination Oil

Protective film coating for lead work.

Provides a protective film coating for newly installed lead work, especially on pitched roofs. Application prevents unsightly white carbonate staining from building up and spreading to adjacent slates, tiles and masonry. Cromar® Patination Oil enhances the lead colour, relieving the ageing process as the lead develops a natural weathered patina. Treatment is especially important where water flows off the lead onto slate etc. to avoid the white staining which damages the appearance of adjacent materials.

Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

The surface must be sound and free of loose or friable materials. To obtain the best result remove all surface dirt, dust and debris arising from installation. Always test a small inconspicuous area prior to full application.

APPLICATION

  • Surfaces must be totally dry before application.
  • Apply oil evenly using a soft absorbent cloth; work horizontally starting at the top and maintain a wet edge at all times.
  • Do not apply in a circular motion as this leave an impression on the lead.
  • Only one coat is required.
  • Before clipping, apply to underside of lead to approx 50 mm from the edge.
  • Apply to all areas, including clips and trim, and coat between laps.
  • VERY IMPORTANT – Always apply as soon as possible after installation, or at the end of each working day; if rain is expected, apply before rain.
  • Always wear gloves and only apply in a well ventilated area.
