The substrate must be stable, clean, dry and free of all contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, cement laitance, old sealants and poorly bonded paint coatings which could affect adhesion of the adhesive / sealant. The substrate must be of sufficient strength to manage with the stresses induced by the tape during movement. Removal techniques such as wire brushing, grinding, sanding or other suitable mechanical tools can be used. All dust, loose and friable material must be completely removed from all surfaces before application of any activators, primers or tapes.
Sika® MultiSeal generally has good adhesion without primers / activators to most dry, clean and sound substrates.
Primer-600 can be used to improve adhesion. For optimal results, the following procedure must be carried out:
Non porous substrates
Metals, plastics, coated surfaces, glazed tiles and similar substrates must be cleaned and pre-treated with Sika®Aktivator-205 by using a clean towel. Before sealing allow a flash-off time > 15 min (max. 6 hours).
Porous substrates
Concrete, aerated concrete and cementitious plasters, mortars, brick, etc. can be pre-heated to increase the adhesion.
