Sika Building Finishing help to overcome the challenges faced during the build and refurbishment of luxury apartments, situated in the heart of Westminster, London.

Designed by Eric Parry Architects, 9 Millbank, the former Imperial Chemical House, and Grade II listed building, has been conserved and neighbouring Ergon House demolished to make way for a new development.

Utilising an EWI system for improved thermal and energy efficiency, this complex project required the development of six specifications, all of which were used in the final work. Three thicknesses of Stone Wool insulation were used within the system and installed onto various substrates.

This included:

  • 150mm Stonewool system with Siloxane Render finish onto SFS and incorporating a 25mm drained cavity, some of which was also required to be installed onto masonry.
  • 30mm Rockwool system with Siloxane Render finish onto sheathing and directly fixed to masonry.
  • 90mm Rockwool system with Siloxane Render finish onto SFS and incorporating a drained cavity and fixed to masonry.

The complexity of this project required the client, St Edward – Berkeley Group, to be heavily involved from the design stage. This ensured that any potential issues could be addressed and resolved during the early design stages.

The Westminster location of the project site proved challenging with extremely limited access to the building. Delivery of the Sika Parextherm materials had to be meticulously managed by the client and installer to ensure goods were received on time to avoid delays to the project timeline.

Installer, London Drylining stated, “This was a complex project however with supply chain partner Sika and their technical support, we were able to provide an exceptional render facade in the heart of Westminster.”
