Product Details
Chemical Base
Synthetic rubber in hydrocarbon solvent
Shelf Life
12 months from date of production
Storage Conditions
The product must be stored properly in original, unopened and undamaged sealed packaging in dry conditions at temperatures between 0°C and +30°C.
Higher storage temperatures may reduce shelf life of product.
Reference shall also be made to the storage recommendations within the safety data sheet.
Density
~0.845 kg/l (23°C) | EN ISO 2811-1 |
Application
Ambient Air Temperature
+5°C min./+40°C max.
Relative Air Humidity
85 % r.h. max.
Dew Point
Beware of condensation.
The substrate and uncured coating must be ≥3 °C above dew point.
Do not use if conditions are close to dew point as condensation forming on the primer can affect adhesion.
Substrate Temperature
+5°C min./+40°C max.
Waiting Time / Overcoating
Temperature | Minimum waiting time | Maximum waiting time |
10 °C | 2 hours | 7 days |
30 °C | 30 minutes | 7 days |
Note: Apply an additional coat if more than 24 hours pass before overcoating. Overcoat within 24 hours for optimum performance.
Times are approximate and will be affected by changing ambient conditions particularly temperature and relative humidity.
Consumption
Apply in one coat, at a coverage rate of 7m²/L (equivalent to a minimum quantity of 0.143L/m²)
SUBSTRATE QUALITY
The surfaces must be clean, dry, free of stripping agents and free of oil, grease, silanes, salts, silicone, siloxanes and other chemicals which could cause poor adhesion. The existing membrane must have sufficient adhesion to the roof.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
All surfaces to be coated should be thoroughly cleaned by conventional means.
If in doubt apply a test area first.
Prior to the commencement of works, adhesion/substrate compatibility trials should be carried out onto the EPDM membrane to confirm substrate suitability and adhesion of the proposed system.
APPLICATION
Prepare Sikalastic® EPDM Primer by stirring thoroughly until all settled pigments are dispersed and the material is consistent in colour with an EPI or equivalent mixer in an electrical drill. A minimum of 3 minutes stirring is recommended. Frequent stirring (every 15–20 minutes) is recommended.
Sikalastic® EPDM Primer can be applied by short-piled roller or brush.
Allow primer to dry sufficiently (see waiting time/overcoating) before overcoating.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Clean all tools and application equipment with Thinner C immediately after use. Hardened and/or cured material can only be removed mechanically.
