Why Choose a Single Ply Roofing System?
Single-ply roofs are a popular solution for either new build or roof refurbishment projects. As a waterproofing solution, single-ply is particularly valuable for buildings with a weight and load-bearing consideration because of the membrane’s structural strength. As well as its durability, single-ply membranes are very lightweight and can be a quick system to install which can make them a cost effective solution. With some of our membranes being as thick as 2.5mm, Sika Sarnafil AT has the flexibility and longevity of a traditional PVC single-ply membrane but is a hyrbid FPO membrane and as the only UK roofing membrane to be certified in Cradle to Cradle, it is our most robust and sustainable single ply solution.
Sika's single ply roof membranes, Sika Sarnafil and Sikaplan are an ideal waterproofing solution where the system requires:
- High durability
- Fire-resistant and fire retardant (All of Sika's single ply membranes have completed Extended Application (EXAP) fire testing)
- Chemical resistant
- Resistant to UV and natural elements such as harmful microorganisms
Sika Single Ply High Performance Solutions
Sika is renowned throughout the world for providing high-quality, long-lasting single-ply roofing solutions. Our waterproof single-ply roofing membranes are suitable for most types of roof design applications, on steel, timber, and concrete structures, and for warm, cold and inverted roofs. Whether it’s a flat, pitched, vertical, waveform, domed, concave or convex roof, we can provide a solution for almost any type of roof structure.
Sika offers two key technologies - polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membranes and thermoplastic or flexible polyolefin (TPO/FPO) membranes. All of our single ply membranes maintain an independent British Board of Agrément (BBA) certification, stating the life expectancy is ‘in excess of 40 years’ for PVC and 25 years for TPO/FPO.
Sika PVC and FPO membranes are manufactured at our facility in Switzerland, a country renowned for quality. The production facilities are state of the art, with quality control to ISO 9001 and the membranes are CE marked to BS EN 13956 : 2005.
Sika Single Ply Products
Our singly ply membranes are dimensionally stable due to their reinforcement, meaning that they do not shrink or lose their shape. They are UV resistant and are tested for UV ageing to the highest international standard for waterproofing membranes which requires exposure to 5,000 hours of UV testing. However, we go above and beyond, with our membranes withstanding 10,000 hours of UV exposure.
Along with compliance with an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, our membranes have a low environmental impact and when used in conjunction with a high performance thermal insulant can significantly improve the energy performance of a building.
Single Ply Application Methods
Ideal application method for lightweight metal deck structures and buildings, such as distribution and logistics centers, warehouses, supermarkets, datacentres. Where there is a greater force of wind around the roof area, a single ply mechanically fixed system is required.
Usual application method for public and residential buildings, including schools, offices, hotels, hospitals, apartments, stadiums, sports centers, plus all types of renovation and repair projects.
Next Generation of Single Ply Membranes
As the first and only UK roof membrane to be silver certified in Cradle to Cradle, Sarnafil Advanced Technology is the next generation of single ply membranes. In 2022, we introduced a new innovative single ply membrane to the UK market, Sarnafil Advanced Technology. This sustainable membrane, has the flexability of PVC and the sustainable features of a TPO membrane. It does not contain heavy metals, oils, chlorine or plasticisers.
