CIF Funding Support
The Government recognised that many UK schools are in need of vital maintenance repair that, if not addressed could result in the temporary closure of areas, if not the whole school on health and safety grounds. For this reason, the ESFA has funding streams in place for academies,or applying academies, to tackle these issues before they escalate.
Sika has been helping Academies, Converter Academies and Colleges gain funding through the Education Funding & Services Agency (EFSA) to

1. INITIAL CONSULTATION
In conjunction with a specialist Chartered Building Surveyor, we will conduct a free initial consultation about funding eligibility with the school Business Manager and/or Site Manager. We will discuss the various funding streams available, such as the Conditional Improvements Fund (CIF), The Salix Energy Efficiency Fund (SEEF) and The Healthy Pupils Capital Programme.
2. CONFIRMATION OF ELIGIBILITY
Our partnered Chartered Building Surveyor specialists can provide advice on how to gain eligibility for potential areas of refurbishment, including roofing areas, windows and boilers.
The current Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) can be obtained by Single Academy Trusts (SATs) and smaller Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs). Larger MATs are still eligible for funding, which they can gain directly from the ESFA.
* MATs with less than 5 schools and under 3,000 pupils.
3. SURVEY IN CONJUNCTION WITH SPECIALIST BUILDING SURVEYOR
Working in partnership with a specialist Chartered Building Surveyor, we conduct free and comprehensive surveys based on the school’s requirements identified at consultation stage. In the case of roofing bids, we will assess thermal performance, condensation risks, draining efficiency and resistance to wind uplift. The most safe and sustainable solution will then be designed to form a bespoke specification for your school.
4. FUNDING BID APPLICATION
The Chartered Building Surveyor manages the bidding process on the school’s behalf, from start to finish. Incorporating the information gathered from survey stage, the bid statement is a complex and tailored application, made to give the school the best possible chance of securing funding. There is no charge to the school for the completion and submission of a funding bid, and should the school be successful in securing funding, any associated project management costs from the Chartered Building Surveyor are absorbed within the funds awarded to the school - ultimatelyresulting in a cost neutral process.
5. APPLICATION SUCCESS
The chosen Chartered Building Surveyor will receive notification of the bid application success at the end of March or beginning of April. We have currently helped secure over £20 million worth of funding for the academies we work with across the UK.
6. CONTRACTOR APPOINTMENT
When specifying Sika's products, we recommend the use of our Certified Contractor Programme. This is made up of audited roofing contractors based throughout the UK. Our Certified Contractor Programme entry requirements are extremely demanding and all our Certified contractors receive full training from our experienced Applications department, to ensure high quality
standards are met.
7. ON-SITE PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Alongside our initial detailed condition report on bid application, we continue to provide support throughout the project, alongside the Sika Roofing Certified Contractor and Chartered Building Surveyor. Our Applications team, consisting of highly skilled roofing experts, will providetechnical advice, guidance, and regular, comprehensive inspections.
8. PROJECT SIGN-OFF AND AFTERCARE
A final inspection of the project will be conducted by our expert Applications team, ensuring that the highest level of workmanship has been reached before a guarantee is issued. 15, 20 and 25 year systems are available, and backed by our single point guarantee, covering the entire roofing system, from the deck upwards, and all details will be provided in the After Care Pack.
