Solar and BioSolar Roofing

Sika® SolarRoof and Sika® NatureRoof PV Mounting Systems have been developed to support the delivery of Government led climate change mitigation initiatives aimed at achieving Net Zero and enhancing energy security through renewable energy production.

Given that most photovoltaic (PV) systems are designed for a lifespan of 25 to 30 years, it is crucial that the roofing system beneath them offers an equal or greater service life to ensure long‑term performance and maximise return on investment. For this reason, specifying an appropriate Sika® Single Ply, Reinforced Bitumen Membrane, or Liquid Applied Membrane roof system is a sensible choice for both new build and refurbishment projects. After all, the roof’s primary purpose is to keep the building and its occupants dry.

The secondary function of a roof is to help insulate the building, a key function given that over 25% of heat energy is lost through the roof.  A suitable Sikatherm® insulation will be specified with the relevant Sika® roofing membrane, insulating the building from external heat in terms of solar gain and ambient temperature.  This insulation provides another key method of reducing the carbon emissions from a building, and one that reduces the annual heating and cooling costs.

When installed by a Sika® Verified or Certified Roofing Contractor and a Sika® SolarRoof Network Contractor the project will be eligible for a Sika System Guarantee.
