Solar and BioSolar Roofing

Sika® SolarRoof and Sika® NatureRoof PV Mounting Systems have been developed to support the delivery of Government led climate change mitigation initiatives aimed at achieving Net Zero and enhancing energy security through renewable energy production.

Given that most photovoltaic (PV) systems are designed for a lifespan of 25 to 30 years, it is crucial that the roofing system beneath them offers an equal or greater service life to ensure long‑term performance and support the expected operational life to the photovoltaic installation. For this reason, specifying an appropriate Sika® Single Ply, Reinforced Bitumen Membrane, or Liquid Applied Membrane roof system is a sensible choice for both new build and refurbishment projects. After all, the roof’s primary purpose is to keep the building and its occupants dry.

The secondary function of a roof is to help insulate the building, a key function, given that in poorly insulated buildings the roof can represent a significant source of heat loss. A suitable Sikatherm® insulation will be specified with the relevant Sika® roofing membrane, insulating the building from external heat in terms of solar gain and ambient temperature. Appropriate insulation can help reduce operational energy demand which may contribute to lower building-related carbon emissions, depending on building design, occupancy and energy source. This can help improve thermal performance and may reduce heating and cooling costs, depending on the building design, location and energy prices.

When installed by a Sika® Verified or Certified Roofing Contractor and a Sika® SolarRoof Network Contractor the project will be eligible for a Sika System Guarantee.
