Sika has launched SikaFume®-50 S, a microsilica admixture which is perfect for enhancing the performance of concrete in aggressive environments.
SikaFume®-50 S contains a fine powder that enhances the strength and durability of concrete thanks to the product’s tiny particles, which are around 100x smaller than traditional cement grains.
How does SikaFume®-50 S work?
When mixed with water and added to concrete, SikaFume®-50 S reacts in the presence of cement and forms extra crystalline structures at a microscopic level. Ultimately, the product fills in any voids that would typically remain within a normal concrete matrix, making the end product denser, harder and stronger.
Used in conjunction with Sika superplasticisers, this creates an even higher-strength concrete, which is also much easier to pump over great distances or into high-rise buildings.
Where would you use SikaFume®-50 S?
Typical applications include:
- Heavy goods yards
- Recycling centres
- Coastal defence areas
- Areas subject to chemical attack such as sileage clamps or bio-gas facilities
What makes SikaFume®-50 S the ideal solution for aggressive environments?
Thanks to its densifying qualities, concrete containing microsilica has very high abrasion resistance and increases durability in floor and pavement construction, especially within high-traffic areas.
Using SikaFume®-50 S in a concrete mix ensures a low penetrability and high chemical resistance against a wide range of contaminants such as sulphates and chlorides, making it suitable for environments with aggressive weather conditions and high impact.
Adding SikaFume®-50 S to concrete can reduce the heat of hydration, thereby reducing the risk of thermal cracking.
The product’s decreased permeability also gives the concrete an excellent freeze-thaw resistance, as less water can be trapped inside the concrete matrix.
SikaFume-50 S - Born in the UK
Processed and stored in the UK, SikaFume®-50 S offers British businesses more flexibility, as they do not have to find the products they need for the perfect concrete solution abroad, but rather, right at home – where it can be delivered in IBCs and bulk tankers as required.
