Retardan®-200 L

Sika Retardan 200 L is a liquid retarder which is suitable for all calcium sulphate binders.

Retardan®-200 L is a liquid high-performance set retarder for calcium sulfate (gypsum) based binders.

The benefits of Retardan®-200 L include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Very efficient set retardation, already at very low dosages
  • Allows adjustment of the setting time to the needs of the manufacturing process
  • Compatible to a variety of calcium sulfate binder types and to other additives, such as
   Sika® ViscoCrete® superplasticizers
  • Retardan®-200 L allows the preparation of large mixes and thus reduces the application costs
  • No reduction of final strength of gypsum products (unlike several fruit acids)
  • Uniform quality ensures a stable manufacturing process run as well as uniformity and homogeneity of the final gypsum product
  • Ecologically unproblematic, free of formaldehyde

Usage

Retardan®-200 L provides excellent performance in the adjustment of setting time and workability of calcium sulfate binders.
The product is especially suitable for the following application fields:
  • Production of gypsum boards (plasterboards / wallboards), fiber boards, partition panels, ceiling tiles and gypsum blocks
  • Ready-mix production of floor screeds and self-leveling screeds based on calcium sulfate binder

Shelf Life

12 months shelf life from date of production if stored properly in undamaged, unopened, original sealed packaging.

Storage Conditions

Storage at temperatures between 0 °C and 30 °C. Protect from direct sunlight, frost and contamination. Use clean drums/containers when delivered in bulk.

Technical Information

Specific Advice

Differences in calcium sulfate binder type, raw material sources, calcining methods, age and storage conditions of the binder and other individual parameters at the plant and/or job site can influence the setting time of gypsum binders and therefore the dosage of Retardan®-200 L. Preliminary testing is required to determine the exact dosage for specific conditions. Please contact Sika technical service for more information and advice.

Application

Application Information

Dispensing

Retardan®-200 L is added to the gauging water. When used in very low dosage, Retardan®-200 L may be pre-dissolved in pure water for easier dosing. Please contact Sika technical service for more information and advice.

Compatibility

Retardan®-200 L may be combined with many other Sika products as well as with most commonly used gypsum additives, like superplasticizer, foaming agent/ defoamer and stabilizer. In combination i.e. with Sika® ViscoCrete® superplasticizer improvements in flowability and setting-time adjustment may be achieved.

Note:

  • Always conduct trials before combining products in specific mixes and contact Sika technical service for information about specific combinations with Sika products.

Typical dosage range in gypsum board production: 0.003 - 0.03 % by weight of binder.
