Project Requirements

A versatile and durable watertight solution for the large expansion joints featured in the water rafting ride.

Sika Solutions

Sika provided the solution to waterproof the recently opened Wild River Rafting ride. As the name suggests, the ride provides plenty of opportunities for spins and splashes, and it has been built within a concrete bund to retain the 150,000 gallons of water that make up the ride.

The bund was constructed using 300 cubic metres of BBA approved Sika® Watertight Concrete which was supplied by Bardon Concrete. This innovative product incorporates state of the art Sika admixtures to prevent water penetrating through the concrete. It was an ideal solution for this application, with many benefits over traditional methods of waterproofing, including simplified design coupled with time saving on site.

To ensure that the bund was totally watertight, joints were sealed using Sikadur® Combiflex® high performance joint sealing system. The system consists of Combiflex® hypalon strip, bonded with Sikadur® epoxy high strength adhesive. Its versatility and durability make it ideal for large expansion joints.
