Project Requirements

Situated in a stunning location on the South West Coast Path, directly overlooking Saunton Sands, Ocean point has a steep hill to the rear, with the inherent problem of draining water penetrating the semi-basement areas.

Sika Solutions

To ensure a totally dry environment, structural engineers Clarke Bond specified BBA certified Sika® Watertight Concrete, which was supplied by Hanson Concrete, for the basement slab and retaining walls. With a 50 year successful track record, use of the Sika® Watertight Concrete system has ensured a dry basement, meeting the requirements of BS8102 Grade 3 (Habitable Space) where people are living or working and no water penetration is acceptable. 300 cubic metres of watertight concrete were supplied to the project.

Used in conjunction with the SikaSwell® jointing system, which consists of joint sealing profiles that expand on contact with water, Sika® Watertight Concrete is a high performance, cost effective solution in comparison to membranes and other systems. Time is saved at both the design and construction stages as the need for complex detailing and installation is eliminated. It also delivers the maximum usable area to the developer.

Sika Watertight Concrete is also being used at Gara Rock in South Devon, another new development for Coast Group, comprising a selection of luxury holiday apartments and cottages all with breathtaking views of the sea and dramatic coast line. This continues Coast Groups policy of finding the most unique and stunning locations along the British coastline to create prime hotel and holiday accommodation.
