Saviours Place is a stunning new development of 64 contemporary apartments on the edge of St Helier in Jersey, recently completed by Dandara, who incorporated Sika® Watertight Concrete in constructing the basement car park to protect vehicles from ingress of water.
Saviours Place is situated on the site of the old Rex Hotel, and is positioned at the bottom of, and built partially into a steep hill, with the inherent problem of water draining into the building.
The development offers secure basement parking, and features a private mezzanine of landscaped terraces for residents.
Project Requirements
A complete watertight solution to prevent water ingress and draining into the building.
Sika Solutions
Dandara, who are both architect and engineers on the project, specified BBA approved Sika® Watertight Concrete for the basement construction in order to overcome this problem and keep the area dry.
The Sika® Watertight Concrete system is a quality solution for basement and below ground construction, which prevents water from migrating through the concrete, and is effective for keeping water both in and out of structures. It is a cost effective system, saving time at the design and construction stages and is backed by a Sika warranty and a 50 years successful track record.
The overdig requirement is also greatly reduced, which was an important consideration on this project with excavation into the hillside.
Readymix supplier, Granite Products supplied 1200 cubic metres of Sika® Watertight Concrete to Saviours Place. Construction joints were taken care of using the SikaSwell® hydrophilic jointing system, one of Sika’s solutions.
