Penyrheol
A new housing development, developed by Pobl Group and constructed by Hale Construction, comprises 144 one bed flats and two, three and four-bedroom contemporary homes that have been designed with a low carbon and ‘fabric first’ approach to help reduce energy consumption for the residents.
Supported by additional funding from the Welsh Government’s Innovative Housing Programme (IHP), the properties at Gwynfaen will be a mix of private sale, shared ownership and social rent.
Located in Penyrheol, overlooking the Loughor Estuary and Gower Peninsula, these timber framed homes were designed by architects, Stride Treglown and built by Hale Construction using mainly manufactured off-site modern methods of construction. The insulated timber framed wall and roof panels were assembled off site, with the facades finished with either Welsh sourced timber cladding or Sika’s Parex® REVLANE+ IGNIFUGE TG external render.
Sika’s registered installers, NTJ Plasterers, were appointed to apply the render system to the panels using Parex® Maite base coat, embedded with Parex® 355 AVU glass fibre reinforcing mesh for additional impact resistance. Parex® REVLANE+ REGULATEUR, a ready-to-use primer was then applied prior to the application of Parex® REVLANE topcoat render in either a bright white, natural white or ash grey colour.
Tom Edwards, Director at NTJ Plasterers commented, “Having worked with Hale Construction on previous projects, we were able to recommend the Sika Parex® render system as a final façade finish due to its ease of spray-application and quality finish. Sika’s local render stockist, The Render Depot, also provided excellent customer service by supplying the tinted render colours direct to site, on-time and meeting the build schedule.”
Photovoltaic panels are being used to maximize solar energy capture, complemented by battery storage systems for energy efficiency. Electric vehicle charging points have also been included, and heating and hot water are provided by air source heat pumps.
