Grimsby
BACKGROUND
The Saucy Fish Co. operates a very busy fish processing plant with several lines. Their challenge was to address an existing concrete slab that was now smooth and showing signs of deterioration in some areas. The requirement was for a food-grade anti-slip flooring solution that would uphold hygiene standards, without introducing any odours to the surrounding production environment. Achieving little downtime with no flex was a must.
THE CHALLENGE
The initial 200m2 phase was identified with production not stopping until 4 pm on a Saturday, with cleaning being carried out until 8pm. The aim was to resume production in the area by 6 am on Sunday. Given the environment was still wet, there was a 10-hour timeframe to lay the flooring onto damp concrete.
OUR SOLUTION
Grimsby Resin Flooring arrived and established their mixing station; implementing an enclosed environment to ensure no dust escaped. Mechanical preparation equipment was equipped with vacuums to ensure further, effective dust extraction, After surface drying the area, they applied the Sika® Ucrete® PFS at a temperature between 8-10ºC, achieving curing within four hours. They then applied 9mm of Sika® Ucrete® UD 200 fast flooring, which cured in less than five hours.
BENEFITS
Even with an incredibly short preparation and application period the client’s requirement for an anti-slip floor finish was achieved, and with the same cleanability as stainless steel.
The Sika® Ucrete® floor was applied to a damp substrate directly with no issues regarding the relative humidity moisture content of the slab and no requirement for a surface dampproof membrane.
The client’s floor was prepared, primed, laid and back in service within a 10-hour period with no issues or effect on the surrounding production.
Seachill’s Engineering Manager, was incredibly pleased with Hull Resin Flooring and the Sika® Ucrete® fast flooring solution. He had he recognised there had been a problem with area but had hesitated to tackle as it was felt that there wasn’t a solution that could be applied within the tight timeframe.
As a result, Seachill planned to continue with renovation works using the same solution.
