Parex Kerbfix

2-component, polyester-based, rapid setting, high-performing bedding mortar

Parex Kerbfix is a two-component, polyester resin based, bedding mortar used for the bedding and fixing of paving units where same day trafficking and / or exceptional bond is required. The Product can also be used for bedding and securing drainage channels, copings,
steps (treads and risers), etc. Available in Winter and Summer formulations to allow for a temperature range of application between 0 °C and +35 °C.

Usage

Third party, independent testing confirmed compliance with the Specification for Highway Works Series 1100 "Kerbs, Footways, Cycleways and Paved Areas" Clause 1101.15: "Precast concrete kerbs bonded to the pavement surface shall be capable of withstanding a static push-off load of 10 kN/m applied parallel to the pavement surface at right angles to the kerb".

~2.0 kg/m2 per mm of thickness, if used as a continuous layer (i.e. a layer thickness of 10mm will require ~20 kg of Product per m2).
NOTE: Consumption data is theoretical and does not allow for any additional material due to surface porosity, surface profile, variations in level,
wastage or any other variations. Apply Product to a test area to calculate the exact consumption for the specific substrate conditions and proposed application equipment.

Yield

Each 14 kg unit will yield approximately 7 litres of mixed material.
Application steps

NOTES ON INSTALLATION

  • Minimum substrate temperature +5 °C.
  • Cold ambient, substrate or material temperatures will influence the curing characteristics.
  • Avoid application if rain is scheduled.
  • Do not thin with solvents. Solvents will prevent proper curing and change mechanical properties.
  • Component B must be kept dry.
  • Do not part mix. Mix full units only.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Laitance and all loose material including dust, oil and grease should be removed in order to produce a sound surface.

MIXING

Pour resin into polythene or rubber bucket. Add catalysed filler slowly whilst continuously mixing using a slow speed, high torque drill with paddle mixer. Continue mixing until a uniform consistency is obtained.

APPLICATION

Apply mixed mortar to the prepared substrate using a suitable trowel. Up to 25mm thickness of mortar may be placed in a single layer. Thicker beds should be placed in 25mm applications. Mortar should be well compacted onto prepared surface. Place the paving unit onto the mortar bed and press down into the required position. Any product extruded from beneath the units can be easily scraped and removed to create a clean and tidy finish.

CURING TREATMENT

Due to the chemical nature of the product no special curing is required.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipment with Sika® Thinner C Cleaner immediately after use. Hardened / cured material can only be removed mechanically.
