Sika is proud to announce a major industry achievement after taking home two prestigious awards at the UK Roofing Awards 2025, held Friday 9th May by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC).
Sika won in the Cold Applied Liquid Waterproofing category for a refurbishment project at Center Parcs Whinfell, carried out in partnership with Central Group. The Hafod Eryri – Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) project, delivered in collaboration with OBR Construction, also won in the Reinforced Bitumen Membranes category. These accolades celebrate not only the durability and innovation behind Sika’s products but also the expertise and problem-solving excellence of the project teams involved.
Winning in the Cold Applied Liquid Waterproofing category, this complex refurbishment project at Center Parcs, Whinfell, involved a 2,200m² roof system above the sub-tropical swimming pool. The 28-year-old roof, originally designed to resemble a sweeping leaf, required a complete overhaul to resolve water ingress, improve thermal efficiency, and upgrade itsaesthetics.
The works, carried out by Central Group, included the application of a Sikalastic® 625N cold-applied system, all while maintaining public access to the popular facility. With a 24-degree incline and curved design rising from 6m to 27m in height, the team worked mostly at night, using rope access and staged platforms to ensure safety and minimise disruption. Sika’s liquid-applied solution was selected for its ability to perform under extreme weather conditions and on a uniquely shaped surface, delivering long-term protection and a seamless, modern finish that respects the original architectural intent.
In one of the most logistically challenging roofing projects undertaken in the UK, Sika was also honoured in the Reinforced Bitumen Membranes category for the restoration of Hafod Eryri, the iconic visitorcentre at the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) - 1,065m above sea level.
Working with OBR Construction, the project team replaced the ageing roof waterproofing system with a robust SikaShield® Reinforced Bituminous Warm Roofing System, built to withstand the harsh mountain climate. Ballast and stone cladding were carefully removed and reinstated, while a bespoke tapered insulation scheme reversed existing drainage falls to combat water pooling.
All materials, equipment, and personnel had to be transported via the Snowdon Mountain Railway, with work carefully scheduled around extreme weather and continuous public access to the summit café and viewing areas. The installation took place above a live environment, demanding exceptional care, technical coordination, and health and safety planning. This project demonstrates not only Sika’s commitment to quality and innovation but also the enduring strength of collaboration between manufacturer, contractor, and client in protecting a nationally significant structure.
"We’re delighted to be recognised by the NFRC in two highly competitive categories. These projects are perfect examples of how technical expertise, high-performance materials, and close collaboration with our partners lead to outstanding results, even in the most demanding environments." Mark Gatrell – Head of Business Unit Roofing
Sika was also shortlisted for projects working with BBR Roofing Ltd, RLW Roofing Ltd and RMG Ltd with fantastic projects completedwith Sika’s roofing systems.
The UK Roofing Awards continue to showcase the best in the industry, celebrating craftsmanship, sustainability and innovation. Sika is proud to stand alongside the winners of 2025 and remain committed to delivering world-class roofing solutions for any kind of challenge.
