Maidenhead
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
Argofield ltd are specialists in online retail for the home décor market in both domestic and international markets. It operates two major home décor online retail websites, and also sells thousands of products on a wide variety of online marketplaces. Its headquarters in maidenhead recently required a repair on its existing asbestos roof.
Sika-registered contractor, Roofing Matters Group, was tasked with repairing the existing roof and installed Sika Roofing’s single ply system Sikaplan®G-15. It was deemed, early on in the project, that completely replacingthe existing roof would not fit in with budget constraints, which meanta watertight solution would be required to repair the roof and minimise ongoing repair costs.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
Original plans were made to overlay the asbestos sheeting with a liquid roofing system, but the discovery of hazardous conditions prompted a swift reassessment of this approach. A solution was devised to create a second roof above the asbestos sheeting, supported by new rafters and decking to distribute weight safely.
Maintaining watertightness on the 400m2 roof was especially important during and after installation as the shop below housed fabric and soft furnishings which could not be damaged. Therefore, a single ply solution was chosen for product reliability, safety considerations and the need for a quick install to safeguard the valuable assets contained within the building.
SIKA SOLUTION
Sikaplan® G-15 was chosen for the roof, a polymeric membrane for mechanically fastened roof waterproofing. Resistant to permanent UV irradiation and wind exposure, it is a polyester reinforced multiplayer synthetic roof waterproofing sheet that is installed using hot air welding without the use of open flames. It comes with a 15-year product guarantee, offering extra peace of mind.
Impressive workmanship and collaboration were displayed throughout the project. Careful attention was given to ventilation details, and Roofing Matters Group designed a bespoke vented ridge cap which was subsequently approved by Sika technicians to ensure compatibility with its products.
The project at Argofield Ltd is a prime example of the power of successful collaboration, innovative problem-solving and high-quality products in addressing complex roofing challenges. As a result, Argofield Ltd can now continue its operations with confidence, knowing that is headquarters is protected by an effective roofing system that will stand the test of time.
