Green Roof Components

Creating a Sika® NatureRoof Green Roof or a Sika® NatureRoof PV BioSolar Green Roof involves selecting the appropriate components to meet various needs, including water retention, growing medium type, and planting methods. A range of complementary accessories is also chosen based on the roof’s location, topography, and ecological or biodiversity requirements.  These products all fall within the Sika® NatureRoof product offer and guarantee.

Protection Layers
SikaRoof Protection Fleece

SikaRoof® Protection Layers come in a variety of weights (g/m2) to suit specific application requirements.  They are installed directly over the Sika® Roof Waterproofing System, where required, to provide resistance to mechanical damage, friction, or the migration of materials from one product into another, such as when PVC and bitumen encounter each other.

drainage boards
Green roof, drainage board

SikaRoof® Drainage Layers are cuspated (egg box) boards that provide both drainage and water retention in a Sika® NatureRoof build-up.  They come in a variety of depths that hold differing amounts of rainwater to suit the specification requirements based on regional, topographical, ecological and biodiversity requirements.  They are installed directly over the Sika® Roof Waterproofing System or a SikaRoof® Protection Layer, where required.

fleeces
Sika Roof Filter Fleece

SikaRoof® Filter Fleeces come in a variety of weights (g/m2) to suit specific application requirements. They are used to separate the green roof substrate (growing medium) from the underlying SikaRoof® Drainage Layer drainage/reservoir board, preventing fine particles from entering into the drainage system.  All Sika® NatureRoof Fleeces meet the requirements of FLL 2018 and ÖNORM L 1131:2010.

growing mediums / substrates
Sika Roof Extensive Substrate

SikaRoof® Substrates are matched to the type of green roof being designed (Extensive, Intensive or Biodiverse).  They provide building regulations fire performance compliance and a basis for plant growth once installed above the SikaRoof® Filter Fleece.  All SikaRoof® Substrates are tested to BS8616: Standardising high performing green roof substrate.

planting options
Wildflower Seed

Sika® NatureRoof systems offer a variety of planting options covering Sedum, Wildflowers and many other plant varieties suitable for Extensive, Intensive and Biodiverse green roofs. Supplied as pre-grown blankets, plug plants or, where possible, seeds to achieve general or specific planting requirements.

inspection chambers
Green Roof inspection chamber

Sika® NatureRoof Inspection Chambers provide access to roof level rainwater outlets, facilitating regular maintenance inspections.  Available in a range of sizes and designs, many forms of drainage designs can be accommodated.  A minimum 300mm wide x 75mm deep margin, consisting of 20mm/40mm rounded gravel, should be installed around all inspection chambers as fire and vegetation breaks, in accordance with GRO Fire Performance of Green Roofs Best Practice Guidance.

edge trims / retainers
Sika Roof Edge Trim

Sika® NatureRoof Edge Trims are used to separate the green roof substrate/growing medium from a gravel margin or cast stone/mineral slab walkway.  They can also be used at perimeter verges or roof steps to retain either the green roof substrate/growing medium or gravel ballast.  Sika® NatureRoof Edge Trims are held in place by ballast weight and do not penetrate the roofing system.

fall protection
Sika Roof Fall Protection

Personal fall protection systems for collective and individual fall protection can be incorporated within the Sika® NatureRoof system, supporting safe working when maintaining the green roof or carrying out inspections.

BioSolar Roof Accessories
Stainless Steel Rectangular Support Frame on White

Sika® NatureRoof PV is a non-roof penetrating Solar PV framing system that is site assembled and consisting of two-piece aluminium Base Plate and Mounting Frames that connect through the drainage/reservoir board. Aluminium rails are then connected to the Base Plate and Mounting Frames so that the arrays are ready to receive Solar PV panels of a range of sizes. The ballast loading of the substrate/growing medium is calculated to sit on the base plates to resist wind uplift.
