Sika offers four established roofing product ranges in the UK:
- Sika Sarnafil® and Sikaplan® – single-ply membrane systems
- Sika Liquid Plastics – cold-applied liquid membrane systems
- SikaShield® – reinforced bituminous membranes and hot-melt structural waterproofing systems

Sika Sarnafil®
Sika Sarnafil® is a single-ply roofing membrane system used in flat roof waterproofing applications. It has been installed on a wide range of buildings across the UK, including projects in education, commercial, retail, leisure, and transport sectors. The system offers design versatility and can be specified for various roof configurations.
Sika Sarnafil® membranes are suitable for use in both new-build and refurbishment projects, and can be applied to steel, timber, and concrete substrates. System selection should be based on project-specific requirements and intended use, supported by technical documentation and specification guidance.
Since the 1960s, Sika Sarnafil® systems have been installed in a wide range of climates and applications globally. Many early installations remain in use today, subject to appropriate maintenance and use conditions.
All Sika Sarnafil® single-ply membranes are independently assessed by the BBA, which has issued durability statements of up to 40 years for specific systems. Certification details and supporting documentation are available upon request or via our product information webpage.
Sikaplan®
Sikaplan® is a range of single-ply membrane systems that have been used in European roofing applications since the 1960s and in the UK since 1972. The range includes systems for both mechanically fixed and adhered applications. When used in conjunction with Sika’s AVCLs, Sikatherm insulation, and compatible accessories, Sikaplan® systems can be specified for a variety of flat roof waterproofing applications.
Sikaplan® membranes are manufactured at Sika facilities in Düdingen, Switzerland and Troisdorf, Germany. These sites support consistent production quality and traceability.
Specific Sikaplan® systems have been assessed by the BBA, with durability statements of up to 35 years. System guarantees of up to 25 years are available, subject to terms and conditions, including correct installation, use, and maintenance. Sikaplan® single-ply membranes have been classified to BRoof(T4) for fire performance, in accordance with relevant UK and European standards. Certification and classification reports are available to support regulatory compliance.
Sika Liquid Plastics
Since 1963, Sika has manufactured a range of liquid-applied coatings and membranes for the waterproofing and protection of roofs and balconies. The product portfolio includes cold-applied built-up roofing systems suitable for warm roofs. These systems are designed for use on both flat and pitched roofs, and include polyurethane membranes that cure to form a continuous waterproof layer.
Sika’s liquid-applied membranes are cold-applied and designed to form a seamless waterproofing layer when installed in accordance with guidance. Specific systems are available with guarantees of up to 25 years, subject to terms and conditions including correct installation, use, and maintenance. Sika has over 50 years of experience in the development and manufacture of liquid waterproofing systems. Products such as Decothane Ultra and Sikalastic-625BMS are low-odour systems with independent sensory testing and certification by Olfasense, and are available for use in environments where minimising disruption is important, including schools, hospitals, and manufacturing facilities. Technical documentation and installation guidance are available to support specification and compliance with relevant standards.
SikaShield®
SikaShield® is part of Sika’s roofing portfolio and includes a range of reinforced bituminous membranes designed for use in flat roof waterproofing applications. These systems complement Sika’s liquid-applied and single-ply membrane technologies and are supported by technical documentation and specification guidance.
Sika has over 40 years of experience in the development and manufacture of bituminous membrane systems for a variety of roof types and application requirements. The SikaShield® range includes Safe2Torch options for both new-build and refurbishment projects. Installations can be supported by Sika’s Approved Contractor Scheme, which helps ensure that systems are installed by trained professionals in accordance with guidance.
The SikaShield® portfolio also includes the SikaShield® Hot Melt structural waterproofing system. This system has been assessed by the BBA, with certification indicating suitability for use over the design life of the structure when installed and maintained in accordance with the relevant guidance. Roof Assured by Sika®
Roof Assured by Sika® provides a range of flat roof waterproofing membrane systems suitable for domestic applications. These systems are available for use on conservatories, balconies, dormers, and other residential roof types, including heritage properties where appropriate.
Installations are carried out by contractors who have completed Roof Assured by Sika® training. Product selection should be based on the specific requirements of the project and supported by technical documentation and installation guidance.
