Waterproofing Solutions
Polyurea is a proven technology widely used for waterproofing and protective membranes in industrial and infrastructure applications. At Sika, we harness this advanced technology to deliver high-performance solutions for aquaculture.
Whether applied manually or spray applied, polyurea systems cure extremely quickly. This helps to reduce installation time and minimise disruption on site. The membrane forms a seamless, highly elastic and crack-bridging surface, offering outstanding resistance to both chemicals and mechanical wear.
These properties make Sika’s polyurea solutions ideally suited to fish tanks and other areas exposed to demanding conditions. This will ensure long term protection, reliability and performance is achieved.
Sikalastic® M 689 A fast-applied, seamless polyurea membrane. The coating is designed to last at least as long as the concrete tank itself, making it virtually maintenance-free — provided it is not subjected to mechanical damage, such as sharp edges or tools.
Sikagard® P 770 A primer used on mineral substrates for approved Sikagard® and Sikalastic® system applications. It improves adhesion and prevents the formation of pores or bubbles after the coating has cured.
Sikadur-Combiflex® SG A joint sealing and waterproofing system designed for joints exposed to extreme stress and movement caused by chemicals and water pressure.

Concrete protection
A land-based aquaculture facility consists of large buildings with floor areas covering several thousand square metres.

Inside these large industrial halls are a variety of tanks, with diameters of up to eight metres and depths of up to five metres. These tanks are made of concrete — either cast as one single structure or assembled from prefabricated elements.

Sika offers the polyurea coating Sikalastic® M 689, which is particularly well suited for concrete protection. For interior applications, waterproofing systems with high chemical resistance are required to prevent leakage from fish feed tanks. At the same time, the concrete structure must be protected from external environmental exposure.
