Whitehaven Foyer Refurbishment
This project focused on refurbishing a historic mixed-use building constructed around 1713. The property required a render solution that respected its architectural heritage while delivering modern performance. Using Sika Parex® products, we successfully met the project’s technical and aesthetic demands.
Key challenges:
- Developing a breathable lime render specification suitable for the building’s age and structure.
- Maintaining historical accuracy in both materials and appearance.
- Addressing the lack of a damp-proof course (DPC) by ensuring the render reached ground level.
- Achieving a striking finish with colour precision.
Sika’s expertise in lime render systems made us the ideal partner. We specified a system using Parex® Parlumiere STH as a water-repellent basecoat and Parex® Parlumiere Fin for the final finish. This combination ensured breathability and durability while preserving the building’s character. The render was applied in B20 Sky Blue as the main colour, with corners highlighted in G30 Mouse Grey. The applicator, Harrison & Little Plastering Services Ltd, hand-formed all corners to match the original construction, ensuring historical accuracy. Our team supported the applicators with on-site guidance, enabling them to achieve a seamless finish. Parex® Parlumiere STH’s lime-based formula provided a perfect base for the structure’s unique requirements.
This refurbishment demonstrates how Sika’s lime render systems blend tradition and innovation. Parex® Parlumiere STH and Parex® Parlumiere Fin delivered a durable, breathable, and visually striking solution. Our commitment to quality, partnership, and expertise ensured a successful result for this historic property.
The refurbished building now features a stunning and historically sensitive finish. The breathable lime render protects the structure while enhancing its charm. Harrison & Little Plastering Services Ltd praised the system, stating: "The render system was very workable for a lime-based render, and we would have no hesitation using it again on other lime projects."
